So this one just dropped a few days ago and naturally (or unnaturally, whatever floats your boat) I had to find out more about this one and what better way than to get it from the proverbial horse's mouth. So check out what he had to say about the track and other interesting developments in his camp.
SpekkTrumn: For those that don't know, maybe because of ignorance or whatever reason, who is Mcpotar?
Mcpotar: Mcpotar is an alias I use in my creativity. It's derived from my government name Michael Mupotaringa but has come to also mean.
I am a rising infopreneur, Dental Therapist and brother to many.
S: Nice. This has been quite a busy year for you. Could the Zim Hip-Hop Best Blogger Award be the motivation?
M: Yes definitely the award was a motivation. It challenged me to keep working. That's why I believe anyone working hard should get credit, it helps them regroup. I also am now challenged to create something with continuity and pass on my ideas to younger guys. I have been educating a lot of young ones on things I learnt.
S: Which is a good thing but most don't want to share ideas. Hopefully they'll take a page from your book
M: Thank you.
S: Zvakusungisa. What is that about? Did you get arrested to think of such a concept?
M: Zvakusungisa is about my arrest by critics. The people who suggest that I should be confined to one artform.
What I am saying is generally for everyon there are those who feel they can control your art. Then there are those that feel you getting big headed and will try to kill the soul of your art by telling you you're not good at it. Zvakusungisa when being multi-talented, pushing a blog, Zaangoma, music and a day job is a felony.
In a capsule Zvakusungisa is saying Zilluminati is a mindset. It is not a group of elite industry heads. Zilluminati is your neighbour telling you (Spekk) to quit Zim Son.
S: And Eureka... I see Tsano on the cover, is that his Rap name?
M: Tsano was on the cover art but he is certainly not Eureka. The picture was just taken from one of his comics. Eureka however is a figment of my imagination. The name came about when I figured that I make the best ideas whilst bathing like Archmedes... Who after making a discovery in his bath went out the street stark naked yelling Eureka!... The hook to this song was made whilst I was bathing. Thus Eureka is on it.
S: Ohhhhhh lol. So should we expect more of Eureka in the near future?
M: Yes you should and you have seen much of his unaccredited work. We sat down and he expressed his concerns that it's about time he gets noticed.
S: Hahaha true. Accreditation is necessary for contributions made
M: Yes only Zinwa can be Zilluminati to Eureka
S: This is your third single release this year, first was #Tirikutonga then That's All. Are these part of a larger project or just mere singles? Should we be anticipating something big?
M: You should be anticipating more singles. They may equalize a full project but never be an actual full project. After The Mcpotar EP I took the reviews I got seriously and now am doing singles to sharpen areas my fans said I lacked in. So this year the music I'm doing is for growth. When I get more confident I will go for an album. What I will not do is be demotivated to leave rap music altogether.
S: That's dope. So no album this year but being a Family Bizness head honcho seems to be paying dividends. I see the Art Department album numbers are looking good. Any upcoming projects from your camp?
M: We have been working on a Navy Seal debut since 2007. Procrastination and perfectionism perhaps. I am pushing for a lot of good Navy Seal projects. He is the first Family Bizness artiste to be monetized as an artiste. So yes hopefully we will fulfill our promise. Tone Lakeside has also been talking about an EP but I must get back to him.
S: You heard it first ladies and gentlemen, new Tone Lakeside on the way. True, Elevated had us hyped for Word On The Street. What about Robbie Illsicker? Any solo plans for him or he's just cool being in the Department?
M: He loves the Department. I think the project will be very Art Department.
S: Oh, kinda like how NWA used to be on Eazy E projects? Thank you for your time Mr Mcpotar. We know we'll see you soon (i.e Zaangoma). Any last words for people who aspire to be like Mcpotar?
M: Surround yourself with a team. No one goes it alone. Study the habits of people who inspire you if you can. I have got much knowledge from Tanaka Samukange, Quence, Mackina, Thembie, Maynard, Spekk, Tadiwa and Sharky among other like-minded people. That's what a team is. It can be organized or it can just be a support group. You can be the the most talented man in the world but you're gonna have a hard time with no team. If Jesus had a team of 12, who are you?
