One person sent me a message on Whatsapp requesting for “hatitambe nemawannabe yaTrae Yung” because he had heard it on radio. I corrected him, it wasn’t Trae Yung but rather Whitney Cash, an upcoming rapper, embracing the fastly increasing Zim Hip-Hop femcee tag.
As her track dropped, I took some time to shed light on this 21 year-old femcee’s life.
(I) Started music because I grew up in a family that loved music so I adopted they love and it became a passion and a dream really
Why the name?
I made a track with a bucket at school when I was 13 and performed in front of my whole stream after that people called me cash Whitney is my real name so it became a stage name
(I’ve) been doing music ever since I learned how to talk I actually recorded a couple of songs at much younger age that were never released, I actually started out as a singer but most people prefer my raps so I embraced that instead
Insight on Takushamisira
It's more or less about telling haters that they hate won't make me quit ima keep going after what I believe in
On the future of femcees in Zim Hip-Hop…
I think we’re making a lot of progress coming up as artists because it's a hard field for women to penetrate so you find a lot of femcees being disheartened. I think Amelia set the pace before her death (R.I.P) and artists like Trae Yung and Blackbird came alive and now we are so many it's surprising, so the future is really bright
On Future plans…
Wow (I) have a lot of projects lined up including a clothing line and preparing to perform at shows so the future is heated
Whitney Cash is currently working on a 10-track mixtape with The Hitmen.
