My honest review of R. Peels' debut album Zviri Eva Beautiful
Overview: Initially under the working title of Forgive My Honesty 2 (as a follow-up to his critically-acclaimed EP Forgive My Honesty), ZviriEvaBeautiful is the debut album of MwanaWaPharoah head honcho R. Peels.
He had promoted this album as the ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Hmmm big shoes to fill, eh?
No. of Tracks/Overall Duration: 15/53:19
Record Label: MwanaWaPharoahGroup
Standout Tracks: Mhosva, KaSong Kako, Kwatakabva Kure, EvaBeautiful, Bhutsu, Magara Hamundipihwe
Spekk Verdict: The album derives its title from R. Peels grandmother (Eva) and paternal aunt (Beauty) and his apparently beautiful musical journey.
Going into this I was under the assumption that this was a concept album, was wrong was I. While there are nods to his gran and aunt here and there this album is more centered on R. Peels.
If you can forgive the cohesiveness of the flow of the track ZEB is an enjoyable album, with one or two tracks that one might not care for.
You might nothing a familiar sample on the first song Mazuva Ose, taken from Mazuva Ose by Ronnie Huni, released in the hey days of the Urban Grooves movement.
This is one album that no matter your disposition you will find tracks to like. The self-proclaimed king of the 22s is out with his most ambitious project yet. What do you think of it?
Having been criticized about the quality of his visuals I hope that ZEB will spectacular visuals that will give the tracks the visual treatment they need. At the writing of this article he was working on a promo video for the album.
