Is Asaph taking over Bulawayo?
The rift between former collaborators Asaph and Cal_Vin seems to be widening with Asaph's latest release MAMBO.
For people that have been living under a rock the past few months, it all seemed to start with the Hate To Say Freestyle Asaph dropped in April about having "one track that could swallow a double album". Cal_Vin, who had recently released his double album Revenge of The Vin did not take this lying down (pause!), responding over the Who Run It beat, reminding Asaph about how he did not yet have his own award and the song he was known for (No Stress) wasn't even his.
Fast forward two months later and Asaph does have an award to his name from the recently held Bulawayo Arts Awards (it deserves it's won starring credits in the video), beating rival Cal_Vin, and is not just dropping a song but an EP as celebration.
Asaph channels his Shona roots and MAMBO is fire all the way through from the production by Rayobeats to the collaborators, who I was hearing for the first time here.Like I said before the beef ain't over and Asaph throws some shade Cal_Vin's way sayinmg how he is seen as a threat by Cal and how No Stress is banging from Northend to Luveve (a reference to the track they did together on Asaph's Kingsvilla and the rival MCs respective neighbourhoods). The track name itself could be a sub as Cal_Vin previously released a track titled King...
