Like he promised Cal_Vin has struck back at Jnr Brown and has replied his We Run It track with Used To Run It. Many speculated that the track would never come out and end as just a snippet. You may be wondering, is it worth hearing?
Slickah Beats provided the sinister beat that Cal_Vin retaliates on. He goes on to state that he is still important as he brought Jnr. Brown back into relevance. Here we get an angry Cal_Vin that delivers in a tone that we are not used but he did go in striking while the iron is still hot.
In all fairness Cal_Vin did work hard last year, having dropping 3 EPs, an album and a series of Freestyle Friday tracks. The Cassper collab may have gotten him a lot of juice but he didn't rest on his laurels.
While some have been labelling this a Harare vs Bulawayo/ Shona vs Ndebele beef (like Briss Mbada may have implied during his interview on The Fixx), this is a misguided notion. I think this is a wake up call for artists, who like Jnr Brown, disappear (no pun intended) and expect to come back with the respect as before. Heavy is the head that wears the crown and the music industry is a very cruel place where today's king may be tomorrow's unknown.
While Jnr Brown went AWOL for almost 2yrs and as the prolonged wait for The Morning Glory continues Cal_Vin has served us with a lot of music, which may validate him as Zim Hip-Hop royalty. Will this one trend like #WERunIT did? Only the near future can divulge that.
Hopefully the Jnr Brown radio interviews that are becoming a common occurrence nowadays mean that we will be getting The Morning Glory soon. Will he respond to Cal_Vin's latest punch? We will see...
