My thoughts on Karizma's Shisha Pipe video shot by Ofentse Mwase and Brian Makhabela.
When I heard about who was directing the Shisha Pipe video I was already sold on the idea that it would be LIT! Shot in Sandton by two of the most consistent cinematographers in Africa right now at the moment (in my opinion). These are same guys that brought the visuals to Emtee's Roll Up, Roll Up (Re-Up) and Pearl Thusi just to name a few. Still in the dark about who I'm talking about? I'm talking about Ofentse Mwase and Brian Makhabela.
I'm beginning to think that the video was shot before the single was even released as a cover art to the single is an actual shot from the video (hmmm talk about being organised). There aren't a lot of people in this visual but don't let that stop you from enjoying the piece of splendid cinematography. Karizzy and Yagi Dojo are the main protagonists in this video, who appear to be dabbing in different shots. The Shisha Pipe girl (yeah that's what I'm calling her) and her friends look alluring (check!). Location (check!), not forgetting those aerial shots (check!) and the editing (check!).
This is a welcome addition to the growing database of Zim Hip-Hop while also setting a high precedence for any video to follow. If last year Mare was the video to talk about this year Shisha Pipe should also get a generous mention.
I know it's only halfway through the year but I nominate this for Video of the Year. How LIT is it? Very LIT. I love it, do you?
